Motel 8 – A place to learn and live

The COSAC Foundation has launched a brand new project. The new property is a motel located just outside Lake City, Florida. Anyone who is in need of a place to live are encouraged to stay- and also learn the trade of hotel employment.

“Have you ever thought about working at a front desk and checking people in? Do you think a job in housekeeping is something you’d be good at? Our idea is to provide people not only a bed but also a skill. This is a place to learn and live.” Mark Targett, Assistant Director of the COSAC Foundation, shared during our interview. “Our motel is a trade school. You don’t need to be homeless to qualify, anyone who is interested in this industry is encouraged to contact us.”

COSAC Foundation has long been a valuable resource and has been the leader on homeless prevention since 1997. Most of its programs benefit the homeless or nearly homeless community. The Homeless Voice Newspaper, which was founded in 1999, is a newspaper distributed quarterly by vendors. Vendors are able to make income and utilize the other resources provided by COSAC Foundation.

One of those resources is the Community Food Bank. 1,450 households seek assistance from COSACs Food Bank weekly. The majority of the food is provided through generous donations from local businesses and community members. Another community based program is the Homeless Outreach Medical Team. A team of volunteers, staff, and medical personnel provide food, clothing and first aid to persons who are homeless. This outreach is particularly useful during the colder months or hurricanes for South & Central Florida.

The Cosac Foundation and its projects like Homeless Voice, Veterans Inn, Motel 8, Homeless Emergency Medical Outreach Team, Orlando Food Bank, Davie Food Bank, and the Cosac Housing Program rely on your private donation and support.
